Remembering two remarkable people.
I was honoured to meet and speak to archbishop Desmond Tutu at a small dinner event hosted by professor Hlengiwe Mkhize, former South African ambassador to the Netherlands. Desmond Tutu’s memorable words that revealed his strength of character and compassion as well as his spontaneity and wonderful sense of humour made a lasting impression on me.
Dear Hlengiwe Mkhize whose rich and impressive career included serving on Desmond Tutu’s Truth & Reconciliation Commission and becoming a minister in South Africa after her time as Ambassador of the Republic of South Africa to the Netherlands, passed away after a short illness in September this year. She died far too young. I remember the experiences she shared with me and her cheerful character and humour that were always present when we worked on projects together.
